Services
Biosafety Officer (BSO)
Acting as a biosafety officer (BVF) under the conditions set forth in the Dutch GMO Decree and Regulations (containment levels I through III)
Consulting and support
- Advice on setting up contained laboratories (ML-I to III, PL-I), and plant cells/greenhouses (PC-I, PK-I, PCM/PCK-I to II)
- Advice regarding permits required for working with genetically modified organisms
- Guidance in the event of incidents or emergencies involving genetically modified organisms
Executive work
- Conducting risk assessments for the contained use of genetically modified microorganisms, plants and animals
- Conducting (periodic) audits and accompaniment of inspection visits
- Preparing notification and permit applications for activities with genetically modified (micro-)organisms (containment levels I to III) in accordance with the GMO Decree and Regulations 2013
- Drawing up and establish procedures for safe and compliant work with biological agents and GMOs
Anneke Braks (PhD)
Anneke Braks operates as an independent BSO under the company name Braks Biosafety. She provides services to companies and institutions that work with genetically modified organisms.
About me
Before focusing on biosafety, I worked as a biomedical researcher and molecular biological at various research institutions in the Netherlands and abroad. I have been involved in a variety of projects involving genetically modified organisms, ranging from applications in fundamental molecular biology projects to use in preclinical animal research.
After my research career, I was trained within the Erasmus MC as a biosafety officer (BSO) and subsequently established myself as a freelance biosafety consultant. I mainly focus on the procedures regarding the GMO legislation and regulations (categories micro-organisms, animal and plant).
I currently support various biotechnological and pharmaceutical companies and research institutions in the Netherlands with their biological safety issues.
